Mustang men compete in Franklin Invitational
Smoky Mountain’s men’s track team took part in the Franklin Invitational last Thursday.
The women’s meet, which was scheduled for last Wednesday, was rained out and will not be made up.
“That’s the first big meet,” Coach Pam Dehdashty said. “Everybody had their best times. We dropped seconds in just about every event we participated in. We competed well with all the 2-A schools there. For a young, inexperienced team, I thought we did well.”
The best finishes for the Mustangs were in the triple jump and high jump. Jonathan Tannehill was second in the triple jump (39-0), and Chris Rosbor placed second in the high jump (5-8).
Adam Ray finished fourth in the 3,200-meter run (11:13) and was fifth in the 1,600 (5:40).
The 3,200 relay team of Ray, Brandon Norris, Keller Berry and Ian Youmans came in fourth with a time of 9:27.
Jesse Brooks was fifth in the shot put with a distance of 42-2.
Roberson won the meet with Franklin second. SM placed eighth among 10 teams.
“It was disappointing that the girls meet got rained out, but we’re going to a meet at Madison this week and we’re looking forward to that,” Deh-dashty said.
