‘Spirit’ arrives at Balsam Mountain

032508balsammountaineaglec
Spirit Augustus, a 15-year-old American bald eagle, spreads her wings Tuesday while she perches on the gloved hand of Michael Skinner, director of the Balsam Mountain Trust. “Spirit” as she’s known around the Trust’s Nature Center, which is located at Balsam Mountain Preserve, arrived in November from the Eagle Foundation in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. The Trust engages the eagle and other resident birds of prey as nature ambassadors for its education programming. For more on Spirit, see this week’s Ruralite Cafe on page 4A.
