Davidson blasts WCU to stay perfect in SC

Stephen Curry pumped in 29 points as Davidson stayed undefeated (9-0) in the Southern Conference with an 82-67 men’s basketball victory Monday at the Ramsey Center.

Jason Richards added 18 points for the Wildcats.

Brandon Giles paced the Catamounts (5-12, 1-6) with 23 points in front of 2,125 fans. Blake Gallagher and Jake Robinson both finished with 12 points.

Richards hit a pair of three-pointers for the game’s first two baskets, and WCU never caught up.

The Cats came within 11-10 on Michael Porrini’s jumper at the 10:32 mark.

Davidson pushed the lead to 20-10 with 4:56 on the clock after nine straight points, including five by Curry.

The Wildcats extended the margin to 36-16 at the 1:34 mark following 10 unanswered points, half of those by Curry.

Davidson was up 42-23 at intermission.

Another 10-0 run, during which Curry had four, gave the Wildcats their biggest lead, 57-27, with 15:23 to go in the game.

Davidson made 48.3 percent of its field goal tries while WCU hit 41.8 percent.

Andrew Lovedale and Gosselin Paulhus both had eight rebounds helping the Wildcats to a 38-32 advantage on the boards. Gallagher had eight rebounds for Western.

Both teams committed 15 turnovers.

Completing the WCU scoring were Porrini with nine, Arnold Gore with seven and Negus McKenna with four.
