Briggs is given job in WCU PE department
Kent Briggs, Western Carolina’s former football coach, has been reassigned as physical education and health counselor for the department of health, physical education and recreation.
Briggs was dismissed as coach in November although he was allowed to direct the Catamounts in their final two games of the season. He has two years remaining on a contract that pays $110,823 annually.
Briggs’ six-year record at Western was 22-43. The Cats lost 19 of their last 20 games.
In his new role, Briggs will provide educational outreach services to physical education classes at public schools across Western North Carolina, with a focus on programs to help develop solutions to childhood obesity, according to WCU news director Bill Studenc.
“The educational programs will be designed to help the region’s youth understand the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle,” Studenc said. “This initiative is in line with Western’s outreach efforts to its partnership schools on educational issues in WNC.”
