Festival co-organizer Travis Berning, top, demonstrates his throwing technique for attendees at Saturday’s Western North Carolina Pottery Festival in Dillsboro. Also among the day’s demonstrator’s was Southwestern Community College pottery instructor Doug Hubbs (above), who showed the delicate designs horse hair can impart to pottery. According to co-organizer Brant Barnes, this year’s third festival was a great day for all the vendors. The event is unique in that it’s the only all-pottery festival in WNC and includes both firing and throwing demonstrations as well as professional potters displaying their wares. “Walking up and down the street, all the work was exquisite – and I heard that comment from several people,” Barnes said. “Our wood-fired pots turned out well, and almost all of them sold. The response of the people was overwhelming.”
