Local Airport Authority approves $63,195 budget

By Stephanie Salmons

The Jackson County Airport Authority approved a balanced budget of $63,195 for the 2007-08 fiscal year at a special meeting held Sept. 25.

The largest expense on the budget is fuel purchases at $32,000.

Chairman Greg Hall said the budget includes $5,000 for attorney fees but that more than $4,600 has been spent as a result of the current lawsuit filed by Dewayne Pruett and R.L Ammons.

Pruett and Ammons initially filed suit after a 2005 storm dumped a large amount of water on the Little Savannah Watershed which, in turn, sent large amounts of mud onto the Ammons property while triggering movement at an earlier slide on the Pruett property.

The lawsuit contends that county officials and the authority share responsibility for addressing these concerns and asks for fair market value for the property, damages and interest.

The Authority is in the process of seeking additional funding and looking into what kind of grants are available, Hall said.
