	Investigation continues into Whiteside Cove murder - As local law enforcement officials continue their investigation of last week’s murder of a Whiteside Cove man, the person believed responsible remains in jail without bond. According to Jackson County Sheriff Jimmy Ashe, deputies responded last Thursday (May 17) to a 10:21 p.m. call from Whiteside Cove Cottage Rentals. 	Memorial Day ceremony is planned at Courthouse - A ceremony in honor of all Jackson County veterans will be held at noon on Memorial Day, which is Monday, May 28, this year. The event will be held at the fountain in front of the old Courthouse or in Room 201A of the Justice Center in case of inclement weather. Capt. Steve Lillard of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq during 2003-04, will be the guest speaker. 	Fire damages tour bus - A fire that broke out Monday morning (May 21) on a passenger bus destined for Harrah’s Cherokee Casino derailed a Gainesville, Ga., group of senior citizens at the bottom of Cowee Mountain. Savannah firefighters got the call at 10:07 a.m. and were on the scene two minutes later, according to Chief Darrell Woodard, who said his department quickly contained the blaze. 			Herald to close for holiday; Early deadlines announced - The Sylva Herald offices and printing plant will be closed on Monday, May 28, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. All news deadlines for the May 31 edition will be noon on Friday, May 25. Display advertising deadline will remain noon on Tuesday, May 29. Classified and real estate ads, normally due at noon Monday, will need to be received by noon on Friday, May 25.

			Relay for Life Photo Gallery - Termed a “banner year” by Jackson County Relay for Life marketing Chairman Susan Yashenko, this year’s 10th Relay fund-raiser exceeded organizers’ $90,000 goal and generated $98,332 for the American Cancer Society.
