FAIRVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL’S Relay for Life team will be at Top Cat’s Grocery this Saturday, March 17, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The team will pump gas and wash windows for donations.



SYLVA BOY SCOUT TROOP 999 will cook a free pancake breakfast this Saturday, March 17, from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Donations to the troop will be accepted and used to buy supplies for the newly rechartered troop and to send Scouts to summer camp.


REMEMBER THE INDOOR YARD SALE this Saturday at Western Carolina University’s Ramsey Center. See the ad for details.


MOUNTAIN CREDIT UNION will hold a grand opening celebration next Thursday, March 22, at its new location next to Ingles. A ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 10 a.m., and food and prizes will be available all day.


DOGWOOD CRAFTERS will host the next Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours on Thursday, March 22. R.S.V.P. to the Chamber office at 586-2155 by March 20.


BALSAM MOUNTAIN INN will host a special St. Patrick’s Day edition of its Songwriters in the Round series on Saturday, March 17. Chuck Jones, Pam Rose and Jill Colucci will showcase their range of talents as both songwriters and singers. Songwriters’ sessions are held in the inn’s 100-seat Seven Springs at Balsam restaurant and are accompanied by a gourmet dinner buffet. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. and music at 7:30 p.m. Cover charge is $10, plus cost of dinner ($25). Reservations are encouraged as most sessions sell out. HARRIS REGIONAL HOSPITAL’S THRIFT SHOP will begin a series of silent auctions. The first one will start Friday, March 16, and close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21. Five items will be offered and bidders must visit the Thrift Shop to bid on them. Items include: a hand-made afghan; a leather hand-tooled western design handbag; a black hand-painted tray; a box of “very old” infant clothing and a 1950 Betty Crocker picture cookbook. All interested customers are welcome to bid. Phone call bids will not be accepted. The goal is to have two silent auctions per month. All proceeds from these auctions will benefit Harris Regional Hospital.


OF ONE A-CHORD coffeehouse will open this Saturday, March 17, from 7 until 10 p.m. with live music, music videos, and coffee, all at no cost. The coffehouse’s goal is to provide a place where those of various Christian faiths can come together and enjoy uplifting music in the company of other like-minded individuals. This week’s live band will bring a fresh sound from Asheville, and there will be music videos from artists including Relient K, Skillet, Krystal Meyers, Kutless, Barlowgirl and Stellar Kart. John Faulk, center, owner of the Burger Shack near Harold’s Supermarket, recently completed an expansion to his building and business. The restaurant will now be open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights from 5 until 9 p.m. Jackson County Chamber of Commerce ambassadors assisted with the ribbon cutting. Saints European Skin Care recently held a grand opening and ribbon cutting at its location on Skyland Drive adjacent to Bella Roma. Shehnaz Adam, holding the ribbon, is the owner of the new skin care clinic and spa, which offers anti-aging skin care treatments, Jane Iredale mineral cosmetics and threading.
