Taylor fires shutout at North Buncombe
Megan Taylor pitched a five-hitter as Smoky Mountain blanked North Buncombe 4-0 in a non-conference softball game last Thursday at Webster.
Cassie Randall and Trish Brooks led the SM offense by going two of three.
“It was a fine pitching performance by Megan and a good defensive performance,” Coach Tony Quinn said. “We also had some big hits at the right time.”

The Lady Mustangs (3-2) took a 1-0 lead in the second when Brooks doubled and scored on Jodi Henkel’s single.
They made it 2-0 in the fifth as Ashlee Stephens singled, advanced on an error and came home on a base hit by Heather Mathis.
The Lady Hawks threatened in the sixth when they loaded the bases with one out. Taylor struck out the fourth and fifth hitters in the lineup to escape the jam.
SM added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Taylor doubled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Randall’s single. After Brooks’ single sent Randall to third, Haven Stephens delivered a sacrifice fly.
Taylor struck out 10 and walked no one.
