Roberson wins over SM in pitching duel

Ashley Green’s home run in the third inning gave Roberson a 1-0 non-conference softball victory over Smoky Mountain on March 6 at Roberson.

The homer was the only chink in a pitching duel between SM’s Megan Taylor and Roberson’s Brooke McDonald.

Taylor allowed two hits, both to Green, and walked one.

“Megan pitched a wonderful game,” Coach Tony Quinn said. “She had 12 strikeouts in six innings.”

Taylor also had SM’s lone hit, a single in the fourth.

The Lady Mustangs threatened in the seventh when a couple of errors put two runners on with no outs. A line drive double play put a halt to the potential rally.

“We were very pleased with the defense,” Quinn said. “We didn’t make any errors.”

He singled out Chelsea Elders for her defense at third base. Elders handled four of the six outs that weren’t by strikeouts.
