Commissioners’ action termed ‘socialist’
To the Editor:
I have never seen such disregard for the citizens in Jackson County as the socialist attitude of county commissioners. I was at the meeting on Feb. 27 and the people who spoke were two to one against the moratorium and the elected officials totally disregarded the opinion of the citizens.
I wonder why there was such a show of law enforcement at the meeting because when elected officials carry out what the people want, as a democracy should, the people will protect the elected officials. I feel as though Jackson County has total disregard for its citizens and acts like a socialist police state. Our soldiers are fighting abroad now to protect our rights and way of life while our own neighbors give rights away like its candy. We need to look closely at what our founding fathers meant in the fifth and 14th amendments. I hope the county attorney realizes that property owners must be compensated for the loss of their land – even if it’s just for a period of time.

Commissioners show good governance
To the Editor:
Governance is that separate process or certain part of management or leadership processes that makes decisions that define expectations, grant power, or verify performance.
A reasonable or rational purpose of governance is to see to it (assure), sometimes on behalf of others, that the organization produces a worthwhile pattern of good results while avoiding an undesirable pattern of bad circumstances.
Perhaps the most moral or natural purpose of governance is to assure, on behalf of those governed, a worthy pattern of good while avoiding a truly undesirable pattern of bad.
A good government, following this line, could be a set of inter-related positions exercising coercive power that assures, on behalf of those governed, a worthwhile pattern of good results while avoiding an undesirable pattern of bad circumstances, by making decisions that define expectations, grant power, and verify performance (excerpted from the online Cambridge American Dictionary).
A strong county commission, on the right track, showed us governance last Thursday evening.
Thank you, commissioners for your strength, foresight and wisdom.
