Amy Haggard to play in Blue-White Game
Fresh off winning a state championship, Smoky Mountain senior Amy Haggard has one more basketball game to play before turning her attention to soccer.
Haggard will play in the Blue-White All-Star Game set for 7 p.m. Friday at Roberson High School. She will be a member of the White team, which is coached by Tuscola’s Ann Gardner, a Sylva resident.
“It’s exciting,” Haggard said. “It should be fun, especially playing with Lindsay Pate and some other girls from the conference.”
“We’re very proud of Amy,” Coach Cindi Simmons said. “She’s very deserving. She played some of her best games in the playoffs, especially in the finals. She’s been instrumental in our success all season.”
A forward, Haggard averaged 8.9 points for the Lady Mustangs. She was named SM’s outstanding player after scoring 18 points on eight of 10 field goal shooting in Saturday’s 85-62 win over Graham in the state 2-A finals at Chapel Hill.
Haggard is an all-conference goalkeeper for the Lady Mustang soccer team. She has signed to play soccer for Coastal Carolina.
