Western Carolina wins over 14th-ranked Tech

Western Carolina’s baseball team pounded out 15 hits en route to a 10-7 victory at 14th-ranked Georgia Tech on Feb. 27.

Jonathan Greene, Donnie Wilson, Blake Murphy and John Ingram all had three hits while Brent Greer added two for the Catamounts.

Greene’s home run gave WCU a 1-0 edge in the first.

The Cats extended the lead to 5-0 in the second. Murphy led off with a triple and scored on an error. Ingram and Barrett Shaft both had RBI doubles, and Wilson singled in a run.

Murphy singled and later scored on Kenny Smith’s fielder’s choice in the third, and Greene drove in a run in the fourth for a 7-0 margin.

Murphy homered in the fifth, and Liles had an RBI single extending the lead to 9-0.

The Yellow Jackets scored in the bottom of the fifth, but Western got that run back in the eighth on Wilson’s RBI single.

Tech made things interesting with six runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Reliever Chris Masters (1-0) was credited with the win.
