Cat in the Hat visits Scotts Creek
Kindergarten and prekindergarten students at Scotts Creek and other county schools received a visit from the Cat in the Hat (Maureen Lackey of the Family Resource Center) and “Thing 1” (M.R. Hall) on March 2, which was the Cat’s creator Dr. Seuss’ birthday. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the publication of “The Cat in the Hat,” a book Seuss wrote specifically to appeal to young readers who were ready for interesting stories but had limited vocabularies. March 2 was also the kickoff date for the National Education Association’s Read Across America initiative. For more information, visit the NEA Web site, www.nea.org. – Herald photo by Nick Breedlove |
