Student band to perform

012507cullowheecreekc
The winter series of old-time and bluegrass music jam sessions sponsored by Western Carolina University’s Mountain Heritage Center will continue Thursday, Feb. 1, with a free 7 p.m. performance by Cullowhee Creek, a band composed of WCU students, in the MHC. Musicians and music lovers are invited to stay for a jam session following the show. Named for the creek that runs through campus, the band plays traditional bluegrass and classic country with a bluegrass sound and was a featured band during last fall’s Mountain Heritage Day. Members of the group include Jacob Trantham, a sophomore construction management major from Canton; Troy Connor, a sophomore from Thomasville, also in construction management; Mike Yow, a sophomore geology major from Stanfield; Harrison Carter from Charlotte, also a geology major; and Drew Egerton from Brevard, who expects to graduate in May with a degree in engineering technology. Winter jam sessions are planned at the MHC, which is located on the ground floor of Robinson Building, from 7 to 9 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month through March. The next open jam night will be Feb. 15. For more information, call the center at 227-7129.
