Western hits 15 treys in routing Chargers

Western Carolina’s men’s basketball team set a school record with 15 three-pointers in a 105-40 rout of Atlanta Christian on Nov. 20 before 1,203 fans at the Ramsey Center.

Nick Aldridge led the Catamounts (2-1) with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Also scoring in double figures were Brandon Giles with 19, Negus McKenna with 16, Kyle Greathouse with 14 and Jake Robinson with 13.

McKenna nailed four treys while Giles and Robinson both hit three.

Anthony Snell had 18 points for the Chargers.

Western shot 62.5 percent from the floor, including 15 of 32 three-pointers. ACC was limited to 28 percent shooting.

WCU dominated the boards 40-24 and forced the Cougars into 27 turnovers while committing 14.

The Cats broke the game open by outscoring ACC 37-5 over the last 13 minutes of the first half. Aldridge had 10 in the spurt while Robinson and Giles both added six for a 52-14 lead at intermission.

Seven points by Greathouse keyed a 14-2 run for an 85-30 lead at the 8:09 mark.

Western reached the century mark on an Aldridge jumper making it 100-37 with 2:51 to play.

McKenna handed out six assists.

Rounding out the WCU scoring were Brigham Waginger with eight, Eric Wilson with six, Stan Johnson with four, Josh Dees with three and Antonio Russell with two.
