Vote canvass, judicial recount confirm local election results

By Carey Phillips

The recent vote canvass by the Jackson County Board of Elections confirmed the results of the Nov. 7 voting.

The Board of Elections also conducted a recount of the Court of Appeals race between incumbent Linda Stephens and Donna Stroud. The recount showed Stephens carried Jackson County 4,793-3,030. However, Stroud was confirmed as the statewide winner by a narrow margin.

Of 49 provisional votes cast on election day, 25 were counted, according to Elections Director Lisa Lovedahl.

In addition to rechecking results from voting machines, the recount involved hand counting those provisional ballots along with transfers, mail-in absentees and curbside votes, Lovedahl said. The minor changes discovered are believed to be from curbside votes, she said.
