Smoky Mountain wrestlers win three of four matches in dual tournament
Smoky Mountain’s wrestling team went 3-1 in matches Nov. 21 at Reynolds.
The Mustangs (4-1) defeated Asheville (51-30), Reynolds (41-38) and Owen (42-36) while losing to Erwin (60-24).
“We avenged our earlier loss to Asheville,” Coach Chuck Beane said. “I was proud of the improvement the kids showed. I was very satisfied to come out of the tournament 3-1.”
Leading the way were Mason Neff (125), Cory Vickery (130) and John-Luke McCord (135), who were 4-0 on the night with three pins and a forfeit.
Joey Cox also had a good night as he was 3-1.
“I was proud of the effort the guys put forth,” Beane said. “We had a couple of guys wrestling for the first time who did well.”
He singled out Chad Harris, who went 2-2 with two pins, in his first career action.
