Pruett, Whitewater to lead jam session
Western North Carolina’s own Whitewater Bluegrass Co. will be featured in a free concert as this year’s series of old-time and bluegrass music jam sessions begin at Western Carolina University’s Mountain Heritage Center on Thursday, Dec. 7. The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the MHC auditorium. Local pickers and singers, and those who just want to listen, are invited to stick around after the show to participate in the center’s regular Thursday night jam session. Well-known for their performances at Mountain Heritage Day Whitewater is composed of, from left, Grammy Award-winning banjo player and WCU alumnus Marc Pruett; bassist Ted White; fiddler/mandolinist Buddy Melton; and guitarist Bill Byerly. Jam sessions are planned at the Heritage Center from 7 to 9 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month through March. Area bands to be featured include the Frogtown Four, Cullowhee Creek and the Stoney Creek Boys. The MHC is located on the ground floor of Robinson Building. For more information, call 227-7129. |
