Annual holiday concert on tap Sunday at WCU

Western Carolina University’s department of music will present its annual “Sounds of the Season” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, in the performance hall of the Fine and Performing Arts Center.

This year’s concert will feature Christmas and holiday music with a variety of musical arrangements, from traditional to modern.

“This fast-paced concert will feature virtually all of the department’s large and small choral and instrumental ensembles,” said Bob Holquist, WCU professor of music.

The “prism” style performance, which has become a yuletide favorite at WCU, goes far beyond the traditional concert format.

“Western’s department of music presents its holiday concert every year as a prism concert, a continuous program that features a succession of performances by varied ensembles staged in different locations throughout the hall,” said Shannon Thompson, assistant professor of music.

Admission for the Dec. 3 concert is $10 for adults and senior citizens, and $5 for senior children and students. Special “patron seating,” which offers a direct line of sight to all of the performance areas, also will be available for $25. Proceeds from the event go to the music department’s scholarship fund.

For more information or to reserve tickets, contact WCU’s music department at 227-7242.
