112306juliespiroxmasdecttPee Wee champions to lead Tuesday’s Christmas parade - With the holidays right around the corner, it’s once again time for Sylva’s annual Christmas parade. Organized by the Downtown Sylva Association, this year’s parade is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28. The theme will be “The Music and Magic of Christmas.” As in years past, the parade will begin at the Community Service Center and make its way down Skyland Drive. Unsafe trailer park could be condemned - A local mobile home park may soon be torn down unless it is upgraded to meet Sylva’s minimum housing standards. Planning Director Jim Aust, told Sylva town board members at their regular meeting last Thursday (Nov. 16) that Kirby Ensley’s Virna Lisa Mobile Home Park off Hospital Road near the Community Service Center may have to be demolished due to its poor condition. Tenants at the park complained to Aust about the condition of the park on Nov. 6. Those concerns prompted a preliminary investigation....


Western student dies in one-vehicle wreck - A Western Carolina University student was killed in a one-vehicle accident around 12:15 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 19). Kyle Taylor Cashwell, a 19-year-old High Point sophomore majoring in political science, died after his 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran off Ledbetter Road and landed in the Tuckaseiege River. Cashwell was traveling south on Ledbetter near Park Place Trailer Park when his SUV went off the left side of the road, overturned down....
