Two recent wrecks renew calls for SMES traffic light - Two recent accidents have led to renewed calls for a traffic light in front of Smokey Mountain Elementary School. The most serious of the wrecks occurred around 7:15 a.m. last Thursday. Tammy Mathis, 37, of Cullowhee was airlifted from the scene to Mission Hospitals in Asheville. She was listed in fair condition Tuesday. Mathis was traveling north on U.S. 441 in a 1999 Dodge van when a southbound 2001 Ford SUV attempted to turn left into the school and struck the Mathis vehicle, according to a report filed by....

Elected officials form group to look at economic development - Economic Development Commission Co-Chairman Brenda Oliver requested help from officials throughout the county to explore economic development options during an Oct. 10 multi-jurisdictional meeting. State’s Appeals Court remands Summit lawsuit to Superior Court - A lawsuit involving Forest Hills will not be decided by the state appellate court as town officials had hoped.
