Nick Morgan
Andrew Nicholas Morgan, 18, of Sylva, died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 21, at Harris Regional Hospital.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 28) at First Presbyterian Church of Sylva, with the Revs. Bill Serjak, David Cathcart and Davis Whitesides officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.
Born Sept. 5, 1988, he was a son of Andrew Farris Morgan and Amy Romines Morgan Sorrells.
He was a lifelong resident of Sylva.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Anne Hilton Romines, who died Monday, Sept. 11.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, David Alexander Morgan of the home; one sister, Mica Turpin; and paternal grandparents, Donald C. and Peggy W. Morgan of Sylva.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Youth Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.

Anne Romines
Anne Hilton Romines, 63, of Sylva, died Monday, Sept. 11.
No services are planned.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Scott Romines, and one grandson, Andrew Nicholas Morgan, who died Thursday, Sept. 21.
Surviving are one daughter, Amy Romines Morgan Sorrells; one son, David Romines; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to United Community Bank, c/o the Anne Hilton Romines Memorial Fund.
Gracie Nichols
Kaura Grace “Gracie” Lea Nichols, 3 months, of Bryson City, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Cold Springs Baptist Church, with the Revs. Earl King and Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial followed at Bill Moody Memorial Park in Bryson City.
She is preceded in death by two grandfathers, Dr. Roger Woody and Thurman Andrews; and seven great-grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Jay Woody, Charles Nichols, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Andrews, Raymond Tutterow, and Gene Nata.
Surviving are her parents, Charles Nichols and Laura Woody; one sister, Kallie Ann Woody of Bryson City; two grandmothers, Jean Andrews of Bryson City and Mary Ann Woody of Easley, S.C.; and two great-grandmothers, Grace Nata of Jefferson, La., and Hilda Tutterow of Greenville, S.C.

Vida Siliunas
Vida Didziulyte Siliunas, 64, of Breedlove Road, Glenville, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at her residence of natural causes.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home.
She was born in Lithuania to Jaduyga Gadonaite Didziulyte of Cashiers and the late Vytanutas Didziulyte.
She had lived in Jackson County part-time for the past eight years and was an executive with Lancaster Steel Company in the financing division.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband of 45 years, Donatas Siliunas, and one sister, Milda Liktorius of Cashiers.
Bonnie Woodring
Bonnie Lynn Woodring, 48, of Sylva, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at Harris Regional Hospital.
A memorial service was held in Houston, Texas, on Monday, Sept. 25, with the Rev. Bill Cole officiating.
A local service is planned for a later date.
She is survived by her mother, Sharon Wilson; one sister, Stacey Anderson; four daughters, Michelle, Belinda, Christina and Amber Stojanik, all of Texas; and one son, Jeffrey Mertz of Sylva.

Clara Allen
Clara Allen, 80, of Andrews, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at a Murphy hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home in Andrews with the Rev. David Panther officiating. Burial was in the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shane Allen, Gus Allen, Matthew Allen, Mark May, Mark Thomas May IV, Eric Allen and Mark E. Allen.
She was a daughter of the late Ebb and Irene Wilson May. A native of Nantahala, she was a homemaker and had worked on the kitchen staff of Andrews Hospital. She was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Allen, who died in 1987, and one brother, Junior May.
Surviving are two sons, Steve Allen of Sylva and David Allen of Andrews; one sister, Ruth Allen of Stanley; one brother, Thad C. May of Candler; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Genieve Lanning
Genieve K. Lanning, 94, of Cashiers, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 28) at Hamburg Baptist Church with the Revs. J.C. Robinson, Emery McCoy, and James O’Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Hamburg Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
She was the daughter of the late George Robert McCall and Annie E. Wroten McCall. She was a member of Cashiers Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles F. Lanning, and one son, Jackie Lanning.
Surviving are three sons, Charles F. Lanning, Jr. of Long Beach, Calif., Robert Lanning of Winter Haven, Fla., and Thomas Lanning of Cashiers; nine daughters, Rebecca Gilbert and Barbara Todd, both of Cashiers, Patricia Sedrick of Bullhead City, Ariz., Lynette Rice of Seneca, S.C., Ella Kiddy and Joy Lanning, both of Lake Alfred, Fla., Ann Palmer of Haines City, Fla., Linda Sherrill of Little River, S.C., and Frances Ambrose of Winter Haven; 33 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild.

James Parker
James M. Parker, 61, of Sedro-Woolley, Wash., died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon, Wash., after a battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley with the Rev. Ron Schenk officiating. Burial followed at Hamilton Cemetery.
He was born Nov. 24, 1944, in Sylva to the late Robert Parker and Elizabeth Moore Parker. After moving to Sedro-Woolley in 1965, he worked as a sawyer and packer in the shingle industry before becoming a foreman with Shell and Texaco refineries in Anacortes, Wash. He retired in 2005.
He was a member of Lyman First Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker and belonged to the Wildcat Steelhead Club.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Conroy and Robbie Messer.
Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Linda Hodgins Parker; two daughters, Jamie Hitt and Janet Schorno, both of Sedro-Woolley; three brothers, Walter R. Parker of Carlton, Wash., Ed Parker of Marysville, Wash., and Rick Parker of Sedro-Woolley; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Wildcat Steelhead Club or to A.L.S. Research.

Ferman Fortner, Sr.
Ferman Allen Fortner, Sr., 60, of Little Farm Road, Tuckasegee, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at his residence, after a period of declining health.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at Cedar Baptist Church, of which he was a member. The Revs. Jim Ed Powell and Sherrill Ammons officiated. Burial followed at Mathis Cemetery with nephews as pallbearers.
A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a son of the late William Arthur and Mindora Broom Fortner. He was a painter and avid hunter, and had worked at Western Carolina University.
He is preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Quayle and Maxine Fortner, and one brother, Odell Fortner.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Bonnie Mathis Fortner; one son, Ferman Allen Fortner, Jr.; five sisters, Betty Middleton and Marlene Mathis of Sylva, Patsy Quayle of Salem, Ore., Linda Fortner of Cashiers and Susie English of Clayton, Ga.; four brothers, Junell Fortner of Hayesville, Forner “Doc” Fortner of Sylva, Eddie Fortner of Sweet Home, Ore., and Tommy Fortner of Cullowhee; and two grandchildren.

Lane Arrington, Jr.
Lane Arrington, Jr., 83, of Waynesville, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2006, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Anna Nobeck Revels officiating.
Burial was in Garrett Hillcrest Memorial Park, with military rites provided by the American Legion and VFW Post 5202. Pallbearers were Robert L. Arrington, Stanley Arrington, Kenny Franklin, Bobby Arrington, Andy Pitts, and Ted Norman. Honorary pallbearers were Mitch Meyers, Leonard Hollifield, Jim Stevens, Charles Pitts, Miles Pitts, Dwight Orr, Charlie McConnell and Jeff Parton.
He was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Staten Island, N.Y., to the late Lane Arrington, Sr. and Margaret Melton Arrington. He attended Western Carolina Teachers College and later Western Carolina University for his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He was employed as a teacher and principal at Glen Alpine and later by Haywood County Schools as associate superintendent and retired after 39 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II on a B-24 Liberator in the European theater. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and an avid sportsman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Buchanan Arrington, who died in 1990; one brother, Guy Arrington; and one infant son, John David Arrington.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Lane Arrington of Kingsport, Tenn., Philip George Arrington of Walterboro, S.C., and James Douglas Arrington of Maggie Valley; two daughters, Margaret Studenc and Audrey Sanders, both of Waynesville; and eight grandchildren.

Blake Mulvehill
Blake Lee Mulvehill, 7 months, of the East Sylva community, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at his residence.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Sept. 28), in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home, with the Rev. Max Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Wilmot Cemetery.
He was born in Jackson County on Feb. 5, 2006, to Michael and Lori Lee Mulvehill.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Haze Lynn Ayen of the home; one brother, Damon Gage Ayen of the home; and six grandparents, Randall and Brenda Lee of Robbinsville, Sharron Mclean of Sylva, Richard Cody of Stecoah, and Eutana Maxwell and Randy Mulvehill of Alabama.
