Lady Mustangs lose to North Henderson
North Henderson downed Smoky Mountain 25-13, 20-25, 25-20, 25-12 in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match last Thursday at North.
Even though two of the games weren’t close, Coach Ken Walker felt winning the second game showed the potential the Lady Mustangs (0-3, 6-6) have.
“When you take a game from a team, that shows you can beat that team,” he said. “We’re just not sustaining the intensity we need.”
The Lady Knights jumped in front 10-5 in the first game then put things away by scoring the last six points.
SM took a 14-10 advantage in game two after three points, including an ace, by Sarah Haggard and Cassie Randall’s kill. Brittany Gilbert’s three points, including an ace, put the Lady Mustangs up 22-18. The game ended on Randall’s kill with Kelli Woodard serving.
SM held a 15-14 edge in the third game after Gilbert’s kill with Amy Haggard serving. The Lady Knights scored the next seven points to take control.
North broke to a 9-1 lead in game four and never looked back.
Amy Haggard led in service points with eight. Megan Taylor and Randall didn’t miss in eight and seven serves, respectively. Sarah Haggard served 92.9 percent.
Team serving was 88.7 percent.
The Lady Mustang JVs fell to 5-7 with a 25-19, 20-25, 25-22 loss.
“It was disappointing coming off two wins to see my girls come out and not play as well as they can,” Coach Natasha Wilson said. “I think they were tired. Hopefully, they will rest up over the weekend and come out strong next week.”
