E. Henderson downs SM in league action
East Henderson defeated Smoky Mountain 25-16, 20-25, 25-17, 25-22 in a Western Athletic Conference volleyball match on Sept. 19 at the SM gym.
“This will continue to happen until they decide what kind of team they want to be,” Coach Ken Walker said.
Amy Haggard recorded 11 kills while Cassie Randall had eight. Sarah Haggard handed out 23 assists.

After trailing most of game one, the Lady Mustangs took a 16-15 edge on three points, including two aces, by Amy Haggard and Megan Taylor’s kill. East then ran off the last 10 points of the game.
SM fell behind in the second game but narrowed the deficit to 9-8 as Brittany Gilbert served three points, including an ace, and Kelli Woodard and Sarah Haggard both had kills. Woodard served three points with Randall and Sarah Haggard having kills as the Lady Mustangs took the lead for good at 15-12. Kelly Childress served the clinching point.
The Lady Eagles led throughout game three, but SM closed within 16-15 when Sarah Haggard served three points, including an ace. East ended the game on a 9-2 run.
Amy Haggard’s four points and kills by Randall and Childress produced a 7-7 tie in the fourth game. The Lady Eagles raced to a 19-9 lead and held off a late Lady Mustang rally.
Amy Haggard and Sarah Haggard led in service points with 15 and 10, respectively. They had respective serving percentages of 95.6 and 94.4.
Team serving was 87.8 percent.
The Lady Mustang JVs won 25-21, 25-18.
“We’re making improvements,” Coach Natasha Wilson said. “I just hope we don’t lose our momentum.”
