Smoky Mountain runners compete at N. Henderson

Smoky Mountain’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the North Henderson Invitational last Thursday.

“The kids were disappointed in their times,” Coach Lawson Hopper said. “They felt great about the course, and the weather was beautiful. They didn’t run as well as they wanted to, but the course was a little tougher terrain.”

Anthony Stephens led the Mustang men by placing 14th out of 170 runners in 20:41. Completing SM’s top five were:

Trey Franks, 44th, 23:01; John Cody, 55th, 23:52; Paul Hammer, 61st, 24:10; and Josh Seay, 105th, 29:46.

The Mustangs were 10th among 14 teams.

Cadence Railsback paced the Lady Mustangs with a time of 24:36 to finish 16th out of 100 runners. Rounding out SM’s top five were:

Katie Hayes, 51st, 28:17; Emily Butcher, 58th, 29:25; Aaron Young, 64th, 30:05; and Emily Cowan, 68th, 30:38.

The Lady Mustangs were ninth among 13 teams.

Hopper noted some of his runners have shin splints and other minor injuries but nothing major.
