Smoky Mountain JVs top North Henderson

Smoky Mountain’s JV football team rolled over North Henderson 50-21 last Thursday at Carr Hooper Stadium/Babe Howell Field.

“It started out back and forth, and then we began to pull away,” Coach Dale Galloway said.

Chad Harper and Matt Bryson both scored two touchdowns for the Mustangs (2-0). Logan Buchanan ran for one score and passed to Josh Ammons for another.

SM had more than 400 yards rushing and also played strong defense, according to Galloway.

“They had one player that was very fast,” he said. “That caught us off guard early, but we made a couple of adjustments and did much better.”

The Mustang freshmen fell to 1-1 with a 28-8 loss at Robbinsville last Thursday.

Jacob George threw a 5-yard TD pass to Rusty Mau, and Cody Watty ran for the conversion.

The Black Knights were on top 22-0 at halftime.

“We came out and played pretty well in the second half,” Coach Jason Roberts said. “George and Watty both ran well in the second half.”
