Motorcycle accident injures man

By Carey Phillips

A man injured in a motorcycle accident Saturday, Sept. 9, was airlifted to Mission Hospitals in Asheville but has since been released.

David Lucas, 23, of Pittsboro was discharged Monday, according to a hospital spokesman.

Lucas is facing charges of driving while impaired, reckless driving and improper passing after the wreck, which occurred around 10 a.m. on N.C. 107 just south of Cullowhee Valley School.

Lucas was traveling north at a high rate of speed on a 2005 Honda motorcycle when he pulled out to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone, according to a report filed by N.C. Highway Patrolman Mike McLeod.

When Lucas merged back into the right lane, he ran off the road to the right and struck a guardrail, the report states.
