Mustang cross country teams compete at West

Smoky Mountain’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in a meet last Thursday at West Henderson.

Cadence Railsback led the Lady Mustangs as she was 45th among 178 runners in 23:44. Completing SM’s top five were:

Katie Hayes, 130th, 27:28; Aaron Young, 131st, 27:31; Emily Butcher, 150th, 28:45; and Chelsea Lydeem, 154th, 29:26.

The Lady Mustangs placed 17th out of 19 teams.

On the men’s side, Anthony Stephens led the Mustangs by finishing 82nd among 213 runners in 20:22. Rounding out SM’s top five were:

Paul Hammer, 130th, 21:59; Trey Franks, 164th, 23:58; John Cody, 183rd, 25:03; and Josh Seay, 202nd, 29:01.

The Mustangs were 18th out of 20 teams.

“It wasn’t our best meet, but we were running hard, “ Coach Lawson Hopper said. “It was a wet, sloppy day.”
