Grace Galloway
Grace Bryson Galloway, 88, of Glenville, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at Arden Courts Assisted Living Facility, Seminole, Fla.
Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Thursday, Aug. 31) in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Bryson officiating The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at Hamburg Cemetery.
A native of Glenville, she was the oldest surviving child of the late Samuel Franklin Bryson and Susie Hooper Bryson. She lived most of her life in Jackson County residing in Glenville, Cullowhee and Tuckasegee. She also lived for a short time in Hiawassee, Ga., and for seven years in Newport News, Va. She was a member of Hamburg Baptist Church for several decades and later became an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cherokee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Paul C. Galloway, who died in 1973.
Surviving are one son, Samuel W. Galloway of Largo, Fla., one daughter, Lynda G. Leech of Smithfield, Va.; one sister, Shirley Smith of Cullowhee; two brothers, Earl Bryson of North Augusta, S.C., and Clyde Bryson of Richfield; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Olin McMahan
Olin D. McMahan, 58, of Homer McCall Road, Lake Toxaway, formerly of Sylva, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at Transylvania County Hospital after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home with the Rev. Bo Brown officiating. Burial was in Barkers Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Carter, James Crisp, Bill Carter, and Bobby, Carl, Dean and Teddy Wykle.
A native of Jackson County, he had lived in Transylvania County for 15 years. He was a retired logger. He was a son of Louise McMahan of Sylva and the late Daniel McMahan.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Lambert McMahan; one sister, Maggie Brendle; and one brother, Reggie McMahan.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two sisters, Vernell Carter and Rosie Bowers, both of Whittier; five brothers, Huey and Doug McMahan, both of Whittier, and Jerry, Dickie and Danny McMahan, all of Sylva; and one step brother, Billy Davis of Montana.
Diane Noble
Diane Elaine Kazimer Noble, 65, of Bryson City, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Asheville’s Mission Hospitals after a period of declining health.
Private services are planned at a later date.
A native of Detroit, Mich., she retired as a secretary at Haywood Community College. She was a daughter of the late Henry A. and Loucille Goron Kazimer.
Surviving are her husband, David Noble; two sons, Daniel Noble of New Port Richey, Fla., and Douglas Noble of Whittier; two daughters, Deborah Dupey of Germany, and Doreen Ballew of Bryson City; one sister, Joyce L. Hengesbach of Warren, Mich.; and seven grandchildren.

Gary Bishop
Gary Lynn Bishop, 57, of Thomas Valley Road, Whittier, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 31) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Ray Williams officiating. Burial will be in Nations Creek Cemetery.
A native of West Palm Beach, Fla., he had lived in Jackson County since 1989. He was a self employed carpenter and a son of Margaret M. Bishop of Whittier and the late John F. “Buck” Bishop.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Amanda and Christana Bishop; one sister, Gail Sansbury of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and one brother, Lawrence Bishop of Boynton Beach.

Bonnie Blankenship
Bonita “Bonnie” Blankenship, 59, of Webster, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, at Harris Regional Hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home, Bryson City, with the Rev. Ned Pressley officiating. Burial was in Brendle Hill Cemetery.
A native of Maine, she had lived in Western North Carolina for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Schools; her mother and step father, Lillian and Avon Shaw; one brother, Ercell Schools; and one sister, Rhonda Smith.
Surviving are her husband, Tommy Blankenship; two daughters, Bernita Jones of Bryson City and Brenda Dubois of Cornich, Maine; one brother, Robert Darrell Schools of Franklin, Tenn.; and four sisters, Avona Foreman of Edwardsburg, Mich., Sally Lukoski of Hartford, Conn., Deenie Lathrop of Augusta, Maine, and Seven Starr of San Francisco, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Clifton Kilby
Clifton J. Kilby Sr., 69, of Sugar Creek Road, Cullowhee, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at his residence after a period of declining health.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Balsam Grove Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with the Revs. Clifford Parker, Clifford Willis and Jason Bradley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Masonic rites conducted by East LaPorte Masonic Lodge #358, of which he was a member.
Pallbearers were Billie Conner, Bill Adams, Glen Trantham, Wayne Hooper, Chet Stephens, Dee Mull, Nelson Koons and J.B. Cook.
A native of Jackson County where he had lived most of his life, he retired from the Postal Service as a mail carrier. He was a son of Lena Jones Kilby of Sylva and the late Lewis Roscoe Kilby.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Vernell Kilby.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 47 years, Eula Mae Conner; four daughters, Carolyn Pannell and Lynn Ammons, both of Sylva, and Janet Creason and Susan Buchanan, both of Cullowhee; two sons, Clifton Kilby Jr. of Winston-Salem and Charles Kilby of Murphy; three sisters, Sue Fouts of Candler, Janette Parris of Sylva and Evelyn Burrell of Tuckasegee; and 15 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Balsam Grove Cemetery, East LaPorte Masonic Lodge #358, or Lewis Rathburn Wellness Center, 121 Sherwood Dr., Asheville, NC 28803.
