Lake levels to be lowered
Wolf Creek Lake, left, and Tanassee Creek Lake, right, will be lowered to 60 feet below full by Oct. 2 to allow major maintenance to be completed at their shared powerhouse. The two small Duke Energy hydroelectric reservoirs are joined by an underground tunnel; water from both lakes travels though a 1.4-mile system of tunnel and pipeline to the powerhouse, which is visible above (lower left). Public boat ramps will be open through Labor Day, and the lakes are expected to return to normal levels by the end of the year. See story on page 6A.
