Good citizen
Sylva’s Phyllis Foxx, second from left, is the recipient of this year’s Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award. Foxx, co-owner of Sylva Insurance, and a past president of Sylva Partners in Renewal (now Downtown Sylva Association), was nominated by WestCare CEO Mark Leonard, left, and grant-writer Art Ellick, second from right. Both cited her dedication and willingness to volunteer her time to make Jackson County a better place to live and work. On hand to present Foxx’s award for Duke was Fred Alexander, right, the power company’s public relations manager. The selection process for the award was coordinated by a Jackson County Chamber of Commerce committee chaired by Marcia Jones, and the award was presented last Thursday (Aug. 24) during the Chamber’s annual picnic. – Herald photo by Nick Breedlove
