Inaugural ‘Tour de Tuck’

082406tourdetuckstart
Darby Harris of Sylva and Jay Cox of Winston-Salem finished first and second in Saturday’s 102-mile “Tour de Tuck” bicycle challenge sponsored by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. The inaugural event attracted a field of 174 riders and was termed a success by Chamber Director Julie Spiro. Winners of the 60-mile portion were Jeremiah Wiggins of Bryson City and Mike Beaman of Cary. The route wound through Jackson County from Sylva to Cherokee and along the Blue Ridge Parkway to Beech Gap and then back to Sylva through Canada community. A rock slide on the Parkway almost forced a change of route, but officials determined bike riders could safely pass.
