Driver faces charges after death of child

By Carey Phillips

A Sylva man has been charged in connection with the death of a child injured in an Aug. 5 automobile accident.

Michael Prindiville, 17, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle following the death of 6-year-old DeAndre Williams of White Pine, Tenn. The child died at Asheville’s Mission Hospitals on Aug. 9, four days after he was injured in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 23-441 between Sutton Branch and Greens Creek.

Prindiville was traveling north when he lost control of his 2001 Ford pickup truck, crossed the median and struck head-on a southbound 1995 Hyundai, driven by 33-year-old Travis Williams, according to N.C. Highway Patrolman Mike McLeod.

Travis Williams, DeAndre’s father, remained in serious condition Monday morning at Mission.

Travis Williams’ 10-year-old daughter, Shenice, was treated and released at Mission.

Prindiville was treated and released at Harris Regional Hospital.
