Software firm plans relocation to county
By Justin Goble
A technologies service firm will soon be relocating to Jackson County.
Members of the county’s Economic Development Commission announced Monday (July 31) that Information Technologies Corporation from Boston, Mass., will move its operation to the county.
Though no site for the company’s offices has been selected yet, EDC member Tom McClure said ITC President Jeffrey Sandilands has been looking to locate near Western Carolina University’s planned Millennial Campus.
Since ITC mainly develops software for the medical field, McClure said locating near WCU would allow them access to university resources. He is also hoping the company will be able to hire recent graduates from both WCU and Southwestern Community College.
“Sandilands has a very strong interest to be here,” McClure said. “His company would add around 20 jobs to the area.”
EDC Co-Chairman and Sylva Mayor Brenda Oliver, who was not at the meeting, expressed her support for the company in a letter of endorsement, which garnered unanimous backing from other EDC members.
“After a careful evaluation of their services, we are of the opinion their business model compliments the future direction of projected growth in this area,” Oliver wrote. “We look forward to having ITC in our area.”
