Jackson County is second to Franklin in swimming meet

Franklin’s swim team scored 617 points to win a recent tri-meet at the Sylva Pool.

Jackson County was second with 357 points followed by Graham County with 170.

Franklin dominated the girls’ meet with 335 points to Jackson’s 130 and Graham’s 80. On the boys’ side, Franklin was again in front at 282, followed by Jackson at 182 and Graham at 90.

“We were at full strength with all our swimmers here,” Coach Pete Hughes said. “Franklin always comes with a lot of swimmers and with Graham here, we had quite the crowd. We have 18 swimmers qualified in between one and six events to compete for high point trophies at the all-stars meet Aug. 5 in Valdese. Sophie Chamberlin, Connor Davis, Alex Lembeck, Natalie Lembeck, Shelby Ray Meyer, Paige Seago, Mark Miller and Dan Thompson have qualified in all six of their eligible events.”
