Quilting circles
Gladys Hooper, left, who turned 93 June 26, and Mary Jo Harris recently shared quilts they’ve made – including the circle quilts above – with participants in a seminar at the N.C. Center for the Advancement of Teaching. Organized by Center Fellow Carrie Gates, the weeklong quilting session, titled “If Quilts Could Speak: Storytelling with a Needle,” gave participating teachers from across the state an opportunity to learn about quilts and quilt-making. The group also discussed the many ways quilts and the stories they tell can be incorporated into classroom lessons. Both Hooper and Harris live in Tuckasegee. – Herald photo by Lynn Hotaling |
