Churches plan ‘Walk to Jerusalem’

Local churches recently celebrated the kick-off of “Walking to Jerusalem,” which seeks to promote benefits of walking by encouraging church members to form teams and walk, at the Justice Center. The program’s goal is for the churches to collectively walk the distance from Sylva to Jerusalem. Participating Sylva congregations include First Baptist, First Presbyterian, First United Methodist, God’s Holy Tabernacle, Liberty Baptist, Lifeway, St. John’s Episcopal, St. Mary’s Catholic and Church of Christ. Taking part in the event were representatives from the churches, Western Carolina University, Jackson County Greenways Commission, Jackson County Department of Public Health and Jackson County Recreation Department.
