One-vehicle accident hospitalizes Clyde man

By Justin Goble

An accident near Blanton Branch has left one man hospitalized.

Clyde resident Harold Dean Sproles, 60, was traveling west on U.S. 23-74 around 2:20 p.m. Sunday (June 11) when his 2000 Ford ran off the highway. According to Sgt. Matt Wike of the N.C. Highway Patrol, the vehicle hit an embankment, and then flipped. There were no other passengers in the vehicle.

Sproles was taken by WestCare EMS to Mission Hospitals in Asheville, where he is listed in fair condition. Wike said he understood the hospital stay was a precautionary move, since no serious injuries were reported at the scene.

The accident caused an estimated $20,000 in damage to the automobile, Wike said.
