Forest Hills budget won’t raise taxes
By Samantha Blanton
Forest Hills said “yes” a budget without a tax increase.
During their regular meeting on Monday (June 5) Forest Hills leaders approved a proposed budget with only two board members and the mayor present.
The budget includes a donation to the Cullowhee Fire Department to help with fire protection, it accounts for any attorney’s fees, and it allows for miscellaneous expenses.
Another expediture that was discussed is police protection.
“The town pays off-duty deputies to patrol the village,” said Mayor Jim Davis.
Officers patrol between the hours of 10 p.m. and 1 a.m. always on Thursday and either Friday or Saturday nights, Davis said.
One amendment was made to the budget before it was passed. It reduced the amount set aside for Summit litigation from $20,000 to $10,000 and allocated the remaining $10,000 toward a new town entrance.
