Patchwork premiere
Particpants in period dress – including Carolyn Wiggins, above, admiring Etheree Chancellor’s “Southern Belle” quilt – added to the charm of Catch the Spirit of Appalachia’s inaugural Patchwork Fabric Festival Saturday at the Jackson County Recreation Complex in Cullowhee. The event had constant foot traffic most of the day, according to coordinator Amy Garza. “The Rec Center gym was transformed into a bevy of color amid the quiet workings of industrious hands as participants generously shared a way of life that has been passed down from generation to generation in the mountains,” Garza said. “The smoothness of this first festival had to do with the excellent support we received from everyone involved – it simply was a great day.” The second Patchwork Festival is already scheduled for the first Saturday in June 2007. For more information, call Catch the Spirit at 631-4587 or the Rec Department at 293-3053. |
