Music of 1940s to be featured in free concert

The music of the 1940s will be showcased as jazz musicians Janet Metzger and Bob Shaw perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at Western Carolina University’s Mountain Heritage Center.

The free concert is being presented in conjunction with the museum exhibit “After the War: Conflict and Domestic Change in the North Carolina Mountains.”

Metzger, who earned her music degree at Florida State University, is an actress and singer, performing a unique blend of jazz and cabaret. She performed as part of the Kennedy Center Millennium Series in 2002.

Shaw received his degree from the Hart College of Music at the University of Hartford and was principal guitar instructor at the Hartford Conservatory of Music for seven years.

The Mountain Heritage Center is located on the ground floor of WCU’s Robinson Building. For more information, call 227-7129.
