Sylva restaurants begin sales of mixed drinks

By Samantha Blanton

Mixed-drink sales are under way in Sylva after the May 2 vote that legalized such beverage sales within the city limits.

In the month since the election, six restaurants have received permits and are offering mixed alcohol drinks to their customers, said Sylva Planning Director Jim Aust.

The restaurants that are currently offering mixed drinks are Karen’s, the Rusty Lizard, El Pacifico, Main Street Bar and Grill, O’Malley’s and Colima, Aust said.

Local sales began May 12, Aust said.

Lulu’s On Main is in the process of applying for the permit, he said.

“Response has been overwhelming,” said Ed Grooms, manager of O’Malley’s. “So far we have had no problems; everything is running smoothly.”
