Richard Morgan
Richard C. “Pops” Morgan, 85, of Bandon, Ore., died Friday, May 19, 2006, in Bandon.
No services are planned.
He was born in Webster and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Yorktown. He enjoyed telling stories. He was a son of the late William Henry and Martha Candus Morgan.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Grace “Granny” Morgan; one daughter, Sheila Stephens; three brothers; one sister; and one grandson.
Surviving are one daughter, Gayle Thompson; one brother, Roy Morgan; four grandsons; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Amling Schroeder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Helen Hensley
Helen Carnes Hensley, 91, of Dillsboro, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 26, at Long Branch Baptist Church with the Revs. Avery Brown and Eddie Stillwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday, May 25) at Moody Funeral Home.
Homer Harris
Homer H. Harris, 90, of Skyland Drive, Sylva, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at his residence.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home with George Birdwell and the Rev. Walter Middleton officiating. Burial was in Old Field Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Doyle Ridley, Henry Lee Walker, Bill Hooper, Brandan Harris, Phil Harris, Steven Hooper, Mike Deitz and Donald Ridley.
A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he retired from Mead Corporation as a foreman. He enjoyed golf, traveling and watching Atlanta Braves baseball. He was a member of the Church of God. He was a son of the late John Wesley and Florence Hunnicutt Harris.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Woodring Harris, who died in 2000; one son, Phillip Harris; two brothers, Amos and Avery Harris; three sisters, Nova Robinson, Elva Ridley and Hattie Deitz.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Hooper of Speedwell community and Robin Birdwell of Yorba Linda, Calif; one son, Ronald Harris of Sylva; one sister, Jean Middleton of Denver; one brother, James Lee Harris of Andrews; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Ruth Green
Ruth Shultz Green, 67, of Murphy, formerly of Sylva, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at her residence after a brief illness.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home with the Revs. Warren Golden and Ronald Greene officiating. Burial was in Barkers Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
A native of Jackson County, she moved to Murphy in 1987. She was a CNA for Coats America and enjoyed fishing. She was a member of Unaka Baptist Church and was active in Moore House Ministries. She was a daughter of the late Luther and Ellen Davis Shultz.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Bill Shultz; one sister, Geneva Bradley; and one great-grandson.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Charles Ray Green; one daughter, Charlene Payne of Clyde; four sons, Kenneth Green of Waynesville, Robert Kevin “Bobby” Green and Richard Dale Green, both of Murphy, and Gary Keith Green of Camano Island, Wash.; two sisters, Marjorie Frady of Waynesville and Mary Proctor of McAdenville; one brother, Charles Shultz of Castalia; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Florence Nations
Florence Parker Nations, 90, of Joe Branch Road, Whittier, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at Skyland Care Center after an extended illness.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Wilmot Baptist Church, of which she was a member, with the Rev. Johnny Ray Davis and Max Cochran officiating. Burial was in Nations Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe Ward, Brad Burns, Harry Steele, Mike Bumgarner, Johnny Nations and Doug Denny.
A native of Swain County, she had lived most of her life in Jackson County. She enjoyed flowers, cooking and quilting. She had worked at Dayco, and had also worked as a cook and in textile mills. She was the last surviving child of the late Mathias and Lilly Josephine Bridges Parker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Nations, who died in 1997; four brothers; one sister; and two granddaughters.
Surviving are one son, Pat Nations of Whittier, one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.
Melton-Riddle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Paul Wikle
Paul Wesley Wikle of Clearwater, Fla., died Monday, May 15, 2006, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater.
Services were held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Pentacostal Church of Clearwater.
He was born in Jackson County and moved to Clearwater in 1958.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; one son, Paul J. Wikle; two daughters, E. Deanne Thorp and Paula Wikle; two brothers, Dean Wikle of Sylva and Robert “Bobby” Wikle of Cullowhee; four sisters, Annie Robinson of Dillsboro, Doris Lillard and Ruth Metcalf, both of Sylva, and Margaret Martin of Liberty, S.C.; and six grandchildren.
Clyde Ledford
Clyde Ledford, 75, of Whittier, died Friday, May 19, 2006.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, in the chapel of Bill Moody Funeral Home, Bryson City. Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery.
He was a lifelong member of Whittier Baptist Church, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was a son of the late Thomas Ledford and Josie Lindsey Ledford.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas Richard Ledford; and one brother, T.K. “Junior” Ledford.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Adams Ledford; one son, Danny Ledford of Whittier; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
