DeGraffenreid honored

Smoky Mountain junior basketball player Cetera DeGraffenreid displays the BB&T Wright Dobbins Award trophy she won May 7 at the Western North Carolina Sports Award Banquet at Asheville’s Grove Park Inn. The award is given to the outstanding 1-A/2-A female athlete in a major sport. Western Carolina basketball player Lauren Powell was presented the H.H. Zeugner Award as the area’s top female college athlete. WCU’s soccer team won the Houser Show Award for the area’s best female collegiate team. Inducted into the WNC Sports Hall of Fame that night was Lawson Duncan, a former tennis player at Sylva-Webster High. Journalist Bob Terrell, a Jackson County native, was honored with a special award.
