Jennifer Webb signs to play volleyball for UNC-Charlotte
Smoky Mountain volleyball standout Jennifer Webb has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for UNC-Charlotte.
Webb chose the 49ers over Mars Hill, UNC-Asheville and UNC-Wilmington.
“I really liked the city of Charlotte, and I loved the campus,” Webb said. “When I went on my official visit, I absolutely fell in love with the whole picture.”

Another factor in her decision is she will be only 20 minutes from her sister, 2005 SM graduate Kristine, who plays basketball for Winthrop.
“Where very close,” Jennifer said. “I’m glad I won’t be far from her.”
“When Jenn came to our campus for a visit, she just fell in love with it and the girls fell in love with her,” Charlotte Coach Lisa Marston said. “It is a perfect fit. She is a very hard-working player and seems to be a fun and energetic competitor. She is getting great training with her club team so I am excited to see what she will do in our program.”
Webb also had words of praise for Marston and her staff.
“The coaches were very enthusiastic on my visit,” she said. “Their coaching program seemed like it would fit me.”
Webb moved in Jackson County with her family just before entering seventh grade at Cullowhee Valley School. She played volleyball for the first time as an eighth-grader.
“I had watched Kristine and her friends play the year before,” she said. “I decided I wanted to play too.”
Her first time playing club volleyball was prior to her junior year in high school. That’s when Webb said she first started thinking about playing collegiately. Those plans were reinforced when her initial club season ended.
“It’s going to be a big challenge to go from playing school and club ball to playing in college, but I believe I’m capable of handling it fine.”
Webb averaged 11.3 kills and 3.2 blocks per match for the Lady Mustangs last season.
She plays for the Biltmore Club volleyball team.
Webb is considering majoring in early childhood education at UNC-C.
She is the daughter of Mike and Joan Webb of Tuckasgee.
