Downtown torch run
Sylva Policeman Jeff Postell, left, and Special Olympics athlete Jason Hedrick carry the Special Olympics Flame of Hope down Main Street Wednesday morning (May 10) as part of the N.C. Torch Run Relay. More than 4,000 law enforcement officers are teaming to carry the torch from Murphy to Raleigh, where it will be used to light the cauldron to signal the June 2 start of the Special Olympic games. The Torch Run is a fund-raising effort by law enforcement agencies across the state that aims to raise $1 million for this year’s games through special events, and individual and corporate donations. – Herald photo by Nick Breedlove. |
