Second casino hopes fade as talks end - Cherokee leaders saw their hopes of expanding the tribe’s gambling operations dashed last week when Gov. Mike Easley abruptly pulled out of talks with the tribe. Eastern Band Principal Chief Michell Hicks requested the governor consider changing the gaming compact in early 2003.
