By Carey Phillips
A stabbing Saturday, April 1, in the parking lot of East Sylva Shopping Center sent one person to an Asheville hospital and resulted in charges against the alleged assailant and victim.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. during a confrontation between Tammy Nations Brown, 31, and Charleen Kay Waldroup, 32, both of Whittier, according to Detective John Buchanan of the Sylva Police Department.
Brown was stabbed in the left shoulder with a pocketknife with a 3-inch blade, Buchanan said. She was taken to Mission Hospitals and has since been released.
Waldroup was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and disorderly conduct, Buchanan said.
Brown is facing charges of simple assault, communicating threats and disorderly conduct, he said.
Both women have been released on unsecured bond, according to Buchanan.
