Playing the numbers

Jeremy Cody, left, sells a Lotto card to John Hardy of Sylva at Cody’s Hot Spot last Thursday (March 30) on the first day of the North Carolina Education Lottery. Local retailers reported brisk sales all day, and statewide first-day totals approached $10 million, an amount which exceeded expectations by several million dollars.
